Whatever you do – don’t put this on your resume!

I had the opportunity to contribute to an article this week for the Lucid Recruitment website about the do’s and don’ts when it comes to resume writing.

As an ex-recruiter myself I am pretty harsh when it comes to reviewing resumes and I don’t hold back when giving clients feedback on both their resume content and format.  Sometimes the smallest things can turn a recruiter off and leave you destined for the dreaded ‘no’ pile.

Recruiters generally take only six seconds to review your resume before they decide whether they put you through to the next round in the process.  Yes, six seconds – you heard right!  Therefore, you need to make it very easy for the recruiter to match you to the role.  To do this, you need to ensure that your relevant experience and key transferable skills stands out in an instant.  This requires having the right keywords on the front page and also ensuring that you use a format that is easy to read quickly.

So, before you send your next application off, have a read of this article below for some tips and advice from recruiters about what they do, and don’t wish to see, when they review your application documents.

Feel free to get in contact at leah@relaunchme.com.au if you have any questions about resume, cover letter, key selection critiera or LinkedIn profile writing.

Relaunch Me offers CV reviews and we can also help you write professional, tailored and compelling application documents that will help you stand out from the crowd.
